Open planet in honour of Day of Astronautics
One day in April Gagarin made his flight, and today we are on such a universal scale occasion will transcend time and space.
Time is not linear, reality is relative, and can simultaneously be in two different places. To prove it, in our current cultural ranking, we sort of go back in time to learn about the future. With undying love for “the Martian Chronicles” and warm memories of childhood on the theme of Kir Bulychev’s works we decided this time to make more distant and mysterious space journey, revealing along the way a couple of other unknown planets. So, the first point of our sci-Fi trip -1938 year.
The asteroid Vesta, around the Main asteroid belt
In earth time: 1938
Discoverer: Isaac Asimov, “In the thrall of Vesta”
What happens:
Three space travellers, survivors in the crash of a spaceship. Three airtight rooms, one spacesuit, three days ‘ supply of oxygen, a week’s supply of food and a year’s supply of water… Continue reading
Flight to Mars
Flight to Mars is planned by several countries, who are ready to launch to the red planet manned spacecraft within the next 30 years. However, despite such promising prospects, scholars continue to argue about the feasibility of such a flight.
You should start with the fact that one-way flight will take on a variety of calculations, from 7 to 9 months. Such a long flight is very dangerous as the technical side (increasing the probability of hardware failures) and physiological and also the psychological side. Will the astronauts be so many months in a confined space with very limited contacts? How will it affect the human body for long periods in a weightless condition? How great is the danger of radiation in interplanetary space? All these questions become very relevant in the context of emerging in a not too distant future flight to the red planet.
However, should carefully consider possible consequences and unforeseen circumstances that may confront astronauts involved in such a long expedition. First of all, you should bear in mind that absolutely not possible to interrupt the mission due to any circumstances, or to deliver to Mars new reserves in case of shortage. In this case the crew can only rely on their own strength. Continue reading
Interesting facts about comets
Comets are small Solar system objects that move in orbit around the Sun and can be observed as a bright point with a long tail. They are interesting for several reasons.
Since ancient times people have observed comets in the sky. Only once in 10 years, we can see the comet from Earth with the naked eye. Its impressive tail flashes across the sky for several days or weeks.
In ancient times comets were considered a curse or a sign of previous trouble. So in 1910, when the Ground caught the tail of Halley’s comet, some entrepreneurs took advantage of the situation and sold people masks, pills from the comet, as well as umbrellas to protect from comets.
The name of the comet received from the Greek word for “long-haired” because people in Ancient Greece thought that comets look like stars with flowing hair.
Comets tail appears only when they are close to the Sun. When they are far away from the Sun, comets are extremely dark, cold, icy objects. Ice body is called the nucleus. Continue reading
