Flight to Mars and the future of NASA

National aerospace Agency is planning to expand cooperation with European institutions and private partners

The outgoing year of 2015 will also be remembered and new developments in the field of space technologies that promise to make orbital flights are cheaper and the space exploration more and more widespread. NASA successfully tests rocket engines, partially printed on 3D printers, the company Space X not only tested the truck Dragon, but was able to successfully return to land reusable first stage of Falcon 9 rocket. The first test of the private media was carried out by Blue Origin billionaire and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. However, for all the successes of private business projects like expeditions to Mars or building a new space station is impossible without the cooperation of different countries. And space – is an area where the US, EU and Russia cooperate successfully, despite the crisis in relations on the Ground.

United States, according to the unanimous opinion of experts, remains a leader in the exploration of space. However, without large-scale programs with the involvement of other countries won’t fly very far.

So, in relations between the US and Russia space exploration remain now, perhaps, the only sector where the two countries are actively cooperating. But, because of the complexities ofpolitical, some in the West to exclude Russia from future space projects. Representatives of the scientific sphere do not consider such a move reasonable.

According to John Logsdon, Professor at George Washington University, “hardly anyone from the participating countries plans to build Russia’s isolation in space. If we take, for example, the International space station that means a complete interdependence between Russia and the United States. Russian machines take American astronauts to the ISS for five years, and will continue to do so.”

After the departure of the “retirement” of the famous space Shuttle, the United States still can only deliver into orbit the cargo. For the delivery of each astronaut NASA pays the Agency “Roscosmos” tens of millions of dollars. For this reason, to space projects are increasingly attracted by private companies.

American machine Dragon, or “Dragon”, became the first commercial ship, which was launched by a private company and successfully returned to Earth. The firm SpaceX, which have created a Dragon, is supposed to be the mission for the implementation of passenger flights on the route “Earth-Mars”.

NASA administrator Charles Bolden says that human flights to Mars will begin no later than in 30-ies of this century.

“If life outside planet Earth exists, and I’m one of those who believe in such a possibility – Mars, I believe, is the place where most likely you can find traces of extraterrestrial life”, said Charles Bolden, administrator of NASA.

According to representatives of NASA, the purpose of mankind is to make people feel space not in the guests. Sending people to Mars, because of its remoteness, should include the establishment of a permanent colony on the red planet. All this requires new methods of international coordination and funding.

The EU, experts say, becomes one of the leaders in space exploration and the main sponsor of the International space Agency.

“The result of the U.S.-European collaboration in space always turns out to be better than the one that would have been earned if the USA had implemented the same project alone, says Jonathan Margolis, Deputy assistant Secretary for science. But this is followed by a second question: will we be able to demonstrate key values not only in the framework of this cooperation, but also on a global scale?”

As a preliminary project, under the auspices of the program of flights to Mars, NASA is considering to attract European partners to the launch of an artificial satellite of the moon. The fact that it will always live people, will be a key element of adaptation of people in a remote Land from the space. Fiction slowly becomes reality.
